At Dental21, we treat cavities and tooth defects with proven filling methods. Our experienced team uses high-quality materials – whether composite filling, resin filling, or ceramic filling – that permanently seal the affected area, protect against further damage, restore chewing function, and prevent more extensive treatments. We're happy to provide comprehensive advice about your individual situation to ensure you receive the most suitable solution that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
When is a Tooth Filling Recommended?
Treatment is advisable for:
Visible holes or dark spots
Toothache or pressure sensitivity
Sensitivity to hot or cold foods
Broken tooth fragments
Damaged, loose, or no longer intact fillings
Tooth-colored composite fillings consist of plastic resins with glass particles. They bond firmly to the tooth structure and are color-matched to your natural teeth. Composite resin fillings are suitable for small to medium-sized defects in both front and back teeth.
For particularly demanding aesthetic and larger ceramic restorations, these are laboratory-fabricated. The cost of ceramic fillings is higher than composite, but you benefit from exceptional stability and longevity. Inlays fill the tooth defect, while onlays additionally cover parts of the chewing surface.
The special feature of these fillings is that they continuously release fluoride, thus protecting against recurring cavities. In our practices, they are typically intended only as a temporary solution until definitive treatment with composites or ceramics.
First, we conduct a thorough examination. Digital X-ray diagnostics determine the extent of the cavity or tooth defect. Our dentists explain the findings clearly and present possible treatment options, creating a transparent cost estimate. We take time for your questions and discuss the next steps together so you can make an informed decision about treatment.
Treatment is performed under local anesthesia so you feel no pain. After careful removal of the decayed tooth structure, the filling material is applied in layers. For composite fillings, we cure each layer with a special polymerization lamp. This ensures optimal stability and a natural tooth appearance. The precise processing ensures a permanent bond between filling and tooth. For ceramic treatment, after cavity removal, the tooth is (digitally) impressioned and in a second appointment, the laboratory-made, precisely fitting ceramic piece is carefully bonded.
After curing, the filling is carefully finished and polished. We check your bite and make fine adjustments if necessary so the filling integrates seamlessly into your dentition. You receive detailed aftercare instructions and we schedule a follow-up appointment if needed. Regular dental checkups and cleanings help extend the life of your filling and maintain your oral health.
