Teeth whitening is a cosmetic procedure aimed at brightening your smile by removing stains from the tooth enamel. This treatment involves the use of chemical agents like hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide, which effectively lighten the color of the teeth.

During the teeth whitening procedure, a gel containing a bleaching substance is applied to the teeth, left to act briefly, and then removed again, while the gums are carefully protected.

Key Benefits and Uses of Teeth Whitening

  • Whitens teeth in a targeted manner, enhancing their appearance for a brighter smile

  • Relatively simple and painless treatment process

  • Useful for naturally darker teeth

  • Effective in treating discoloration caused by food, drinks, or habits such as smoking

In-Office teeth whitening

The clinic team performs in-office whitening right at the practice by applying a gel to the teeth and using a specialized light source to accelerate the process. The treatment usually lasts around 90 minutes.

In-Office teeth whitening

At-Home teeth whitening

Home bleaching is carried out at home. The patient receives a fitted splint from his dentist into which the gel is filled. The patient then wears the splint for several hours a day.

At-Home teeth whitening

Teeth whitening treatment steps

Certain groups of people and dental conditions necessitate special caution and attention. It is crucial to receive personalized advice and undergo suitability testing by a dentist to accurately evaluate these factors. For instance, if you have sensitive teeth with exposed roots, visible dental work, or extensive fillings, you may not be a good candidate for whitening. Teeth whitening is not recommended for children under 18, pregnant women, or breastfeeding patients. We would be pleased to provide you with advice on this matter!

Before Treatment

Before Treatment

Initially, the dentist advises the patient about the treatment and informs them about possible risks and side effects, taking the patient's medical history and examining the teeth and gums. If necessary, an X-ray of the teeth and jaw is taken, and a professional teeth cleaning is performed.

In-Office Teeth Whitening

In-Office Teeth Whitening

If the option of in-office teeth whitening was selected by the patient together with the doctor, then the dentist applies the whitening gel to the teeth and a special gum protector. The gel is activated with a special light source. This usually takes around 30' per jaw.

At-Home Teeth Whitening

At-Home Teeth Whitening

If the option of at-home teeth whitening was selected by the patient together with the doctor, then the dentist does a scan or takes an impression to order a customized splint from a dental lab. At home, the patient applies a modest quantity of bleaching gel into the splint, which is then worn for several hours a day for one to two weeks. During this time, the gel will efficiently whiten the exterior of the teeth.

After Treatment

After Treatment

After the procedure, the teeth should be cared for particularly carefully. This includes regular brushing, flossing, and mouthwash. Patients should avoid smoking, or drinking coffee, tea, or red wine after treatment, to protect the teeth from further discoloration.

Was passiert bei einer In-Office Bleaching-Behandlung?

chevron down

chevron down

chevron down

chevron down

chevron down

chevron down

chevron down
